Artist Statement – “Together We Thrive”

Title: ‘In the Rain with You’

For this challenge I decided to focus on the thrive section of the prompt, my interpretation being a plant life inside all of us that requires water to grow. Depicted is a group of friends reaching higher into the clouds in search of rain to better care for their plant, each providing emotional and physical support for eachother on their journey. The rain represents the growth we experience in life and the special people we need in order to achieve that, reaching for the light and better wellbeing much like a real plant. I chose to use blue as the main colour of this piece to create a sharper focus on the plants nestled in their chests and to capture the excitement of the storm, facing a challenge that is better experienced together. The moment captured is that of celebration from working as a group to achieve a goal, I took inspiration from my own experience of this competition and the people creating tirelessly alongside me throughout the night. This was an excellently difficult yet enjoyable challenge to participate in and the final message behind my artwork is you can easily find rain on your own but it’s a lot more fun to do it with others.
